COLLEGE WORLD SERIES

Another weekend in Omaha

The glass slipper fits. Oregon State is going to college baseball's royal ball. The Beavers rode the sturdy back of Jonah Nickerson to get there. The junior right-hander took on Rice with two days' rest, pitched almost eight innings of two-hit ball and carried his team into the College World Series' championship series with a 2-0 victory.

exclamation point For an Episcopal Pioneer, the Challenge Is to Unite
As she talked about her past and her future, Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori on Tuesday described a life filled with so many unusual steps — including learning to fly and entering the Episcopal priesthood at age 40 — that it seemed to suggest an almost congenital appetite for challenge... She grew up around Seattle and in New Jersey. But Bishop Jefferts Schori returned to the West Coast to attend college at Stanford University and then to pursue a master's and doctorate in oceanography at Oregon State University. Her master's work dealt with "things that live in mud," on the Oregon coast, she said.

How are items chosen for Beaver Eclips?
Beaver Eclips is a free service of the OSU Alumni Association. Its main purpose is to provide alumni and friends of OSU with a sense of how Oregon State has been portrayed in the news media over the past week. Items are selected by the staff of the Oregon Stater and by other OSUAA employees. Inclusion of an item in Eclips means only that we think it's interesting and/or important, and does not constitute an endorsement of its point of view or its journalistic accuracy.
