Alumnus offers gift for new forestry program
An OSU and College of Forestry alumnus, Richard Strachan, has donated $3.6 million to endow a faculty position and a new OSU undergraduate degree, according to OSU's news and communications service. The faculty position will support forest management research and will be called the Richard Strachan Chair in Forest Operations Management. |

An innovative research program in the College of Engineering at Oregon State University has allowed Oregon to stretch its bridge funding dollars by helping the state more accurately evaluate which aging bridges need replacement or repair.

Dead zone backlash
Years before scientists started studying a "dead zone" off the Oregon Coast, fishermen knew 10 to 20 miles south of Newport was a poor place to take their boats in the summertime. "I don't think it's new. This has been going on for a lot of years," said Newport fisherman Joe Rock, who began commercial fishing in the 1950s.

Brink has done a lot of growing up
