exclamation point Study burns biofuels
A new analysis by a team of Oregon State University economists concludes that biofuels offer only marginal progress toward energy independence and reduction of greenhouse gases and do so at a much higher cost than other alternatives.

exclamation point Baaa-d dream startles scientists
You may think Oregon scientists working in obscurity would like having their research discussed in The London Times, The New York Times and hundreds of papers and blogs worldwide. Not when you're being called a homophobe and compared to Nazis. Two men studying sheep sexuality say they've been blindsided by a recent flood of error-filled news stories and hostile Internet communications about their work. Many reports falsely say that they aim to prevent homosexuality in people.

Yep, they're gay
exclamation point Astronaut recounts 'awesome' voyage
William Oefelein may have spent less than two weeks in space, but five years of NASA training and a lifetime of education as well as personal and professional development made that journey possible. Oefelein, an Oregon State University College of Engineering alumnus, piloted the Space Shuttle Discovery to the International Space Station in December. He and the rest of the seven-member crew reconfigured the station's electrical system and added a truss segment to accommodate more solar arrays, which provide electrical power.

exclamation point Through the years: Helping create a photo finish: Jim Folts, alumni and faculty member, reflects on a long career that isn't quite over
If one man can illustrate the rise and fall of the photography program at Oregon State, it's Professor Jim Folts. He helped construct the photography program from the ground up, taught in it when it was in its prime, and today he still holds on to what will be left behind as it is gutted.

How are items chosen for Beaver Eclips?
Beaver Eclips is a free service of the OSU Alumni Association. Its main purpose is to provide alumni and friends of OSU with a sense of how Oregon State has been portrayed in the news media over the past week. Items are selected by the staff of the Oregon Stater and by other OSUAA employees. Inclusion of an item in Eclips means only that we think it's interesting and/or important, and does not constitute an endorsement of its point of view or its journalistic accuracy.
