Fortress surges on market debut
Shares in Fortress, the private equity and hedge fund manager, soared on their New York debut on Friday, (Feb. 9,) nearly doubling in early trading before closing up almost 70 per cent. Some compared the event to the dot com frenzy of the late 1990s. The blockbuster start, fueled by investors eager for a slice of one of the hottest sectors in high finance, turned the Fortress founders into billionaires. Fortress's partners – including (1984 OSU business graduate) Wesley Edens, Robert Kauffman and Randal Nardone, its founders – will keep about 78 per cent of the voting rights in the company. Mr Edens' stake was worth about $2.3bn (£1.2bn) at the close of trading.
