Oregon State's president, vice president and athletic director pulled back cloaks to unveil samples of the Beavers' new athletic logo Wednesday. As a ballroom full of boosters at Portland's Multnomah Athletic Club applauded, the logo stood alone.

Scientists looking at the aftermath of wildfires in the forests of southwestern Oregon and Northern California found that after five to ten years even the most severely burned areas had sprouted plentiful seedlings without any help from man.

The new 4-H
The traditional prize pigs and blue-ribbon steers at the county fair still form the backbone of 4-H in Clackamas County, but the century-old organization has branched out far beyond its agricultural roots. Clackamas County has the largest 4-H program in Oregon, attracting nearly 5,000 children and teens as participants.

Beavers put out a solid, all-around game while dismantling Trojans starter Ryan Cook. While their 12-game win streak was snapped last weekend, the No. 8 Oregon State baseball team continued its streak at home by extending it to seven straight home victories with a 9-5 victory over No. 25 USC (18-13 overall, 1-3 Pac-10).
