OSUAA welcomes new membership and alumni program leader
|
Julie Schwartz, a proven membership recruiter and program coordinator with roots in the Pacific Northwest, has been hired as associate director for membership and alumni programs at the OSU Alumni Association.
Schwartz had been associate director for alumni relations at The University of Montana Alumni Association in Missoula, where she was involved in all aspects of alumni programs. She started work in Corvallis on April 17 and said she is adjusting to having a new mascot after many years of being a Grizzly.
“Obviously I’m a Beaver in training,” she said. Schwartz added that while she will miss Montana, she looks forward to working with OSU alumni and with the staff of the Alumni Association to boost membership and participation in alumni programs.
“Julie is a great addition to our team and will provide the leadership needed to take our membership and alumni programs to the next level,” said Jeff Todd, executive director of the OSUAA. |

OSU grad directing Oregon Stater, alumni communications
Kevin Miller, former senior editor of The Register-Guard newspaper in Eugene and editor of the Barometer, has joined the staff of the OSU Alumni Association as editor of the Oregon Stater and manager of alumni communications.
“As the alumni association for Oregon’s premier research university, we’re delighted to have a professional of Kevin’s quality and experience,” said Alumni Association Executive Director Jeff Todd. “This is a great fit. Kevin will have a major impact on our efforts to connect in new and deeper ways with the thousands of alumni who call Oregon State alma mater.”
Under the leadership of recently retired editor George Edmonston Jr., the 90-year-old Oregon Stater has earned numerous awards, including 15 national and regional prizes since 1988 from the Washington-based Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.
Miller, 50, is a 1978 graduate of OSU, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in technical journalism and served as editor of The Daily Barometer in 1977-78.
“After 30 years of working in daily newspaper journalism, I’m excited and quite lucky to have this opportunity,” Miller said.

Home tailgaters to cater to OSUAA members
The benefit of membership in the Alumni Association will become enhanced this fall with the CH2M HILL Alumni Center ballroom catering to dues-paying members during fall home tailgaters. Non-members will be admitted on a space-available basis with a cover charge.
In addition to the ala carte menu items of previous years, menu selection will include more plated choices. Other promotional benefits, including raffles and prizes, will be available.
Orange and Black Club events will remain in the Willamette Room of the Alumni Center. The building’s foyer, patios and expansive exterior will remain open to the general public for food and beverage purchases.
“This is a way to recognize our dues-paying members, while still providing the general public access to most amenities, including vendors, restrooms, ala carte food and beverage service,” said Alumni Association Executive Director Jeff Todd.
