"The moment of victory is much too short to live for that and nothing else." Martina Navratilova said this about tennis in 1989. Nonetheless, it seems that philosophy applies well to OSU's appearance in the 1999 O'ahu Bowl on Christmas day.

I - like all Believer diehards - would have cherished a victory. Had the Beavs won, I'm sure that over the years, selective memory would make that triumph 90 percent of the recollected experience.

To set things in perspective, however, the game-day spectacle was but a portion of the adventure. There was plenty of time for other facets of the "1999 OSU O'ahu Bowl Tour" - white sandy beaches, the tropical Pacific and enchanting Hawaii. Now, sitting here in Oregon three months later, I see that the most priceless of all was the time spent with old classmates, newfound friends and other Beaver Believers.

Having said that, I can scarcely wait until the Beavers' next bowl trip, and I hope they beat the tar out of the other team.

GO BEAVS!
