'70s
Frank Morse, '70, has retired as president of Morse Brothers, a construction materials company based in Tangent.

Ken Thrasher, '71, has been named CEO of the Fred Meyer Stores division of the Kroger Company.

Harold Hansen, '71, is vice president of sales for Smith Tractor and Equipment Company, Inc., in Tacoma, Wash.

Rich Morgan, '71, was recently appointed vice president of professional services at Central Design Systems, Inc.

Carol Englander, '71, has been implementing a version of the OSU SMILE program in Rhode Island for the past five years, working with middle and high school students in the area of math and science.

Charla Hart Carey, '71, is a supervisor and team coach in a nationwide program to enable offices of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to move into an employee-managed team environment.

Mick Smerdon, '72, '77, a molecular biosciences professor at Washington State University, is internationally known for his work in understanding DNA damage and repair, cancer prevention, and issues of the environment. He recently was appointed to the editorial board of the Journal of Biological Chemistry  and received the WSU College of Science's Distinguished Faculty Award in 1999.

Nancy Hagood, '72, is the executive assistant at the Albany Convention and Visitors Association.

Judy Dickson, '72, is the library media specialist in Scappoose.

Suzanne Whisler, '72, a 23-year veteran with the Portland Police Bureau, currently is a sergeant in the Internal Affairs Division.

William Phillips, '73, is retiring this spring from Central Arizona College as dean of instructional services at the Arizona State Prison campus.

Joe Gehlen, '73, is the president of Kramer Gehlen & Associates, Inc., an engineering firm in Vancouver, Wash.

Jill Haney Neal, '73, of Olympia, Wash., has an international following of her "wild women" art, which depicts whimsical situations of women enjoying life.

Karen Seppa Nordstrand, '73, is the executive director of the Monterey County Film Commission in California.

Khaled Nasser Al Aamer, '74, '75, is the president and CEO of Al Aamer Furniture, a large chain of furniture and carpet stores in Saudi Arabia.

Greg Laragan, '74, is a roadway design engineer with the Idaho Transportation Department.

Stan Strickland, '74, is the public works director for Klamath County.

Karen Collier Strickland, '74, is teaching fifth grade at Roosevelt Elementary school in Klamath Falls.

Douglas R. Hight, '75, recently has joined the Sutter Medical Group in Sacramento, Calif., and is a member of the law firm Adams and Mason.

William Brant, '76, 78, is a school psychologist in the West Linn ­ Wilsonville school district.

Jon Meyer, '76, retired as colonel from the Air Force Reserve after 30 commissioned years of active and reserve duty. He was awarded the Legion of Merit upon his retirement. He is currently senior account manager for government sales and marketing with CSX Transportation in Baltimore, Md.

Jennifer Jackson, '76, '85, '95, is a fifth grade teacher in Foster.

Paul Sakamoto, '77, is vice president of memory products at Credence Systems Corp. in Saratoga, Calif. He and his wife, Monica, have two children, Rex, 6, and Julia, 3.

Floyd Graves, '77, is a physical education teacher and football coach at Rogue River High School. He played football for the Beavers from 1972 to 1974.

Dan Oldham, '77, executive assistant to Multnomah County Sheriff Dan Noelle, is seeking election to the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners. The Gresham resident taught business education at Centennial High School for 18 years and was a police officer for 11 years.

Tom Lieb, '78, has joined the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago in Herrin, Ill., as a physician specializing in spinal cord injury medicine.

Shawn Lacey, '78, has retired from geologic consulting work and now manages his real estate company, Suburban Investments, in Denver, Colo.

Jeff Clark, '78, Lake Oswego, is the Oregon regional manager for Norwest Mortgage, a subsidiary of Wells Fargo.

Mark Kralj, '78, was elected chairman of the board of trustees of the American Red Cross Endowment Fund. He is principal and portfolio manager at Ferguson, Wellman, Rudd, Purdy and Van Winkle, Inc.

Anne Merydith-Wolf, '79, is project coordinator in the Office of International Programs at the University of Kansas. She was a staff member in the OSU department of agriculture and resource economics until 1993 and recently completed an update of the curriculum notebook "Stream Scene: Watershed, Wildlife and People" for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Erik Aho, '79, and his wife, Lorraine Houde Aho, '85, have started an Internet business, sacredhome.com, where people of all faiths can order spiritual art items. They are thankful for their liberal arts education at OSU and were pleased to be able to hire Erik Voldengen, '95, as their Web engineer.

'80s

Richard Halse, '80, is an OSU instructor in botany and plant pathology and curator for the university's herbarium, a collection of more than 350,000 specimens from Oregon and around the world. He is working on the Oregon Flora Project to update a list of current plants growing in the state. More information can be found at www.orst.edu/dept/botany/herbarium.

Scott Gardner, '80, is curator of parasitology at the Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology, the University of Nebraska, where he studies mammal-parasite biodiversity.

Dan Thomsen, '80, has been named area manager in Douglas County for Pacific Power. He has been with the company for 20 years.

Don Mendez, '80, Portland, is regional director of Meliora Tech Marketing, which helps firms sell and market communication, distribution and database software.

Krisztina Zsebo, '81, has been named executive vice president of research and product development for Connectics Corporation, a pharmaceutical company headquartered in Palo Alto, Calif.

Devri Reynolds, '81, Tualatin, has joined the employee benefit consulting team of Galt & Newlands Inc. and is affiliated with Healthcare Strategies Inc., a managed care consulting firm.

Marilyn Harris LeMoine, '81, has been promoted to the position of director of market communications with the American Plywood Association ­ Engineered Wood, at its home office in Tacoma, Wash.

James Hansen, '81, is temporarily working in South Korea as a technical sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.

Cory Crebbin, '82, is the director of public works for the city of Medford.

Thomas Toomey, '82, has been promoted to chief operating officer of Apartment Investment and Management Company.

Donald William Wolf, '82, Salem, is working for the Oregon Natural Resources Division.

Timothy Molinari, '82, Sacramento, Calif., works in construction finance and serves as vice chairman of the board for the Mission Oaks Park and Recreation District. He and his wife, Bridget, have three children.

Marshall Thiesen, '82, has moved with his family to Cottage Grove to become the operations and community business manager for Pacific Power.

Jim Clark, '82, has accepted a position as senior vice president for commercial credit with Columbia Trust Bank. He and his wife, Paige Clark, '85, have two children and live in Richland, Wash.

Angela Blidsoe McFarland, '82, '92, has recently exhibited her work in mosaics at a gallery in Corvallis.

Joseph Myers, '82, '88, Fairfax, Va., is principal analyst with BRTRC Inc., developing and teaching professional education classes to federal government acquisition leaders.

Paula Steinkamp, '83, is a pharmacist for Westfair Foods and writes for The Consumers Health Oriented Magazine, a nonprofit organization in Manitoba, Canada.

John Danon, '83, is the plant manager for Kraft Foods in Sussex, Wis. He lives in Madison, Wis., with his wife, Kristen Danon, '84, and sons, Eric and Tyler.

Scott Hendrix, '83, is the director of writing at the Academic Skills Center at Albion College in Michigan.

Thomas J. Roffe, '83, '91, a U.S. Geological Survey scientist in Bozeman, Mont., has received the U.S. Department of the Interior's Superior Service Award for his outstanding contributions to wildlife health and natural resources management. He was honored for his research with bison and elk affected by brucellosis, a disease that causes cattle and wildlife to abort their calves.

Linda Hatch, '84, is the Boeing Distinguished Professor in Science Education at Washington State University in Pullman, Wash.

Carl J. Fedyszyn, '84, has a medical practice in Grand Forks, Mich. He wishes to thank the College of Pharmacy and OSU for helping him attain his goal.

Jen-Hsun Huang, '84, president and CEO of NVIDIA Corporation, has been elected to the RAND Board of Trustees in Santa Monica, Calif.

Mary Jo Rutten, '84, is a life learning teacher at Rosemont Ridge Middle School in the West Linn-Wilsonville school district.

Curtis Sorensen, '84, has opened a family medicine practice in Columbus, Ga., after 11 years service in the Army.

Elaine Joyal, '84, is a botanist working with telecommunications projects for Jones & Stokes in Tempe, Ariz.

Christopher Elskamp, '85, is a manager at Potlach Corporation and resides in Clarkston, Wash.

Shelley Hanson, '86, is director of real estate operations at Spirit Mountain Development Corporation and recently has opened a plus-size women's clothing store in Salem called "Bountiful."

Kevin Bacon, '86, is acting principal at Jefferson High School, Portland.

Merle Waterman, '86, Lafayette, Colo., is the acting chief financial officer of Rogue Wave Software.

Ron Davis, '86, is the owner of Davis Tool, Inc., which he started in 1980. His company produces tools for a wide variety of manufacturing services at plants in Hillsboro and Forest Grove.

Marion M. Micke, '87, has received the College of Applied Science and Technology's Outstanding Teacher Award at Illinois State University and was inducted into the National Golden Key Honor Society as an honorary member for her teaching excellence.

Calvin George, '87, is a CPA with the Landerholm law firm in Vancouver, Wash. He married in 1988 and has three very active children.

Mark Fryman, '88, is a certified public accountant and auditor for the Oregon Department of Transportation in Salem.

Andrew G. Wones, '88, is an aquatic biologist and project manager for Jones & Stokes, an environmental consulting firm in Bellevue, Wash.

Adam Schrage, '89, is vice president of marketing for Electric Lightwave, an integrated communications provider based in Vancouver, Wash.

Carl D. Hoy, '89, is a project engineer for Harley-Davidson Motor Company at its project development center in Waukesha, Wis., where he lives with his wife, Donna, and daughter, Nicole.

'90s

Terry Lee Taylor, '90, was impressed by the enthusiasm of the 6,000 Beaver fans that descended on Reno last Memorial Day Weekend for the football game against Nevada. She recently has married and works as a table games dealer at The Silver Legacy.

Kim Schmith, '90, graduated from Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in Portland and has opened an acupuncture practice in Madras, specializing in nutrition and herbs.

Kerry McCurtain, '90, a food safety specialist in Wenatchee, Wash., has joined the staff of East Wenatchee Food Depot and The Fair Market.

John Warren, '90, is employed by Raytheon Construction Inc. in Hermiston.

Paul Castro, '90, spends his summers in Woodburn, where he is co-owner of Solo Edition Embroidery. The rest of the year he is the Spanish broadcaster for the San Antonio Spurs NBA games.

Eric Wilson, '90, is employed by the Idaho Department of Lands as a mined land reclamationist and lives in Boise with his wife, Brandy.

Brent Norquist, '90, is a major in the Marine Corps serving in 29 Palms, Calif. His wife, Melissa Davis Norquist, '90, is currently a full-time mom raising "future Beavers," Ashley and Emily.

Greg Hicks, '90, is the public affairs officer for the USS Harry S Truman and will be moving in August, with his wife, Bronwyn Sullivan Passberger, to the Naval Post

Graduate School in Monterey, Calif.

Matt Shirtcliff, '91, Baker City, is the deputy district attorney in Baker County and has filed for the position of district attorney.

Lisa Schlavin Johnson, '91, is a full-time mother living in Eugene with her husband, Robert Johnson, and her son, Bjorn.

Tim Medearis, '91, is the special education teacher at West Linn High School.

Ingolf Matthee, '91, recently has moved from Germany to Boston, Mass., where he became corporate development manager for the United States operations of Dyckerhoff, a building materials producer.

Jeff Giulietti, '91, is the clinical director at Gateway Physical Therapy in Eugene/Springfield where he lives with his wife, Alisa, and six-month-old twin daughters.

Were you in the Women's Land Army?

Between 1943 and 1947, more than 135,000 Oregon women helped save the state's harvests by serving in the Women's Land Army (WLA), a farm labor program sponsored by the Oregon State College Extension Service. Were you one of them? If so, your help is needed again.

Danette Rowe, a graduate history student at Portland State University, is writing a history of the Women's Land Army and would like to conduct oral history interviews with WLA participants. Copies of the interviews will be placed in the OSU Archives.
